This reminds me of a friend who loved testing the boundaries of the postal service. He'd use almost anything as a "postcard"--cardboard cut into a strange shape, photos reinforced by tape, liner notes in a CD, foil. I think the only thing that was returned to sender was the time he tried to send a rock.

I do recall sending some interesting cardlike objects through the mail. The parameters have been flattened since (🤣). “Those were the days.” RIP Norman Lear.

This is awesome Oma! This has reminded me of what a delight it was to receive a postcard from a friend or family member who was on a vacation or trip and that they were thinking of you so much that they took the time to pick up a postcard, jot a little note, but a stamp on it and drop it in a mailbox 💗

It’s so true, there’s great delight in receiving a postcard, maybe even more than a letter for me.

This is a kids' summer camp thing. We used to send our kids to camp for 8 weeks over the summer and postcards were how we stayed in touch. That is the last time I wrote one, about 20 years ago. x

Such a fun way to stay connected. I’m gonna try to write more postcards in general. It is sometimes tough to figure out what to say in that little bit of space. Reminds me of the funny scene in Under the Tuscan Sun where she offers to write the postcard for one of the other tour members.

I love a good postcard, I have a pile sitting on my desk at the studio I bought from Ephemera of vintage Space imagery. I romanticize sending them out to clients and family and friends, but so far they've just sit there mocking my ideas.

As for the Airmail, I happened upon this yesterday. Was it Bon Appetit or New York Times? Either way, I sent a note to a friend (digital not postcard) and asked 'Why try to fix the perfect cocktail?' as it was described to be a riff on the French 75.

Great post – cheers!

That’s so funny about the timing of another Airmail sighting! I didn’t see that, but will go look for it now. And go send one of those postcards, they sound amazing!
