I, too, have a hard time with any water I can’t see the bottom of, and remember a completely irrational fear that something terrifying as a shark could even be in the swimming pool. Geez, Spielberg really did a number on our generation!
Had a conversation recently about splash pads vs. swimming pools. Cost and upkeep, of course, but also how pools provide so much more for communities, including providing exercise space, multi-income and cultural gathering place, and of course, child care. All of which you cover here.
Ashworth is my happy place….I am so giddy on the summer day when I get to start my morning swimming outside as the sun creeps over the trees casting dapples of light into the water. I am already missing it. The season is too short.

Right?
Okay, this dip sounds amazing! I'm a sucker for Worcestershire sauce in anything.
Also, I love this perspective of finding beauty in the everyday! Thanks for the reminder, Jenn!
Also speaking of formerly neglected public pools restored to brilliance: McCarren in Brooklyn. Throughout the mid-00's they threw music shows here (Neko Case, Band of Horses, etc.) to help refinance the restoration, and now it is open to help cool NY'ers. https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/mccarren-park/facilities/outdoor-pools/mccarren-park-pool
Neko would be so fun to see at a pool show!
Hahaha. if only public pools had endless club sandwiches and cocktails! P.S. Ocean swimming is terrific!
I will relay your request to the management.

This crushes, Jennifer. Per usual.
Now that you mention it, I never did like splash pads.

I'll update the post with a postcard image of what Ashworth used to look like for you!
